Thoughtful Adventuring in Support of Sustainability

Sustainability | Hong Kong’s love affair with seafood is the stuff of legend. We like them fresh, we like them large.  Most of all, we like them a lot. According to the WWF, Hong Kong people rank the second in consuming seafood in Asia, and the eighth largest in the world. Individually we consume 65.5 kg of seafood on average per year. That’s over thrice higher than the global average.

With the amount of seafood we eat, you’d think seafood sustainability is of paramount importance. After all, wouldn’t we want to make sure we save what we love?

On Friday night, 18 August 2017, guests gathered in the Bremont Hong Kong Boutique. Douglas Woodring, Director of Ocean Recovery Alliance, spoke about “thoughtful adventuring,” the Global Alert app and the 2nd Kin Hong Seafood Festival.

Pololi ‘s creator, Steph Kudus, gave a testimonial on why it’s important to participate in the festival and engage with issues of sustainability. “Pololi is all about the fish,” she shared. “On a personal level, I’m also an avid scuba diver. I love our oceans.”

Sustainability

The goal of the Kin Hong Seafood Festival is to inspire change within the food and beverage industry. The Festival encourages restaurants and caterers to choose responsibly sourced seafood. In doing so, as a community we raise our collective awareness  on why we should care about the health and manner in which our seafood is produced and caught – not just for today but for the future as well.

For the second year, the Kin Hong Seafood Festival will run throughout September 2017. Over 100 outlets and partners have signed up and will be serving at least one dish using responsibly sourced seafood.

The ENTERTAINER is proud to support the festival this year. In the coming days look out for our articles and social highlights showcasing our amazing partners that offer sustainable seafood. Best of all, it’s buy one get one free.

Many thanks to our generous event partners, Maison Eric Kayser for the canapes and Kerry Wines for the beverages. Thanks to all our guests for joining us in supporting our oceans. View photos HERE.
