Ready, Set, Run!

HK Running Routes | Are you tired of being stuck indoors on weekends because of the rain and feeling miserable as you look out of your office window on weekdays and see a clear blue sky? We know the feeling… all too well, unfortunately! Seriously, sometimes we feel like the weather just likes to toy with our emotions. If typhoon season is bringing you down, fret not, you are just one run away from a good mood. Let us give you something to look forward to with our favorite road running routes on the island.

From short runs you can do on sunny days before work (ha! Take that temperamental Hong Kong weather!) to longer distances you can conquer on a bright weekend (if only the sun would stop playing hard to get), these routes come with some of Hong Kong’s most picturesque views that runners of all levels will enjoy.

Grab your running mate, hit the pavement and have a run-derful time!

HK Running Routes

Central Waterfront Promenade

Of all HK running routes, this scenic option is perfect for beginners and will encourage non-runners to get off their couch and give running a try. The roughly 3-4km route starts from Tamar Park and ends in Sun Yat Sen Park or vice versa, passing the HK Maritime museum, Observation Wheel and Star Ferry terminal. Start early to run in peace with the stunning harbour to keep you company. Or start late and be prepared to dodge people on your path, which could be a fun challenge! LOL.

Lugard Road

It would be difficult not to stop to admire amazing views of our concrete jungle if you decide to take on this 3.5km route which circles around The Peak, Hong Kong island’s highest point. The path starts from The Peak Tower but you can choose to take either Lugard Road or Harlech Road. Both end back where you started, which is perfect as you have plenty of restaurants to choose from in the tower to satisfy runger pangs.

Bowen Road

This iconic route is a favorite of experienced runners. It’s generally flat, covered with greenery and offers spectacular views of Wanchai and Central. The 4km path starts at the eastern end of Bowen Road, near Adventist Hospital and ends at Magazine Gap road or vice versa. They say distance makes the heart grow stronger so try turning your run into an 8km loop to finish where you started. Don’t forget to check out the phallic Lover’s Rock on the eastern edge of Bowen Road.

Victoria Road

Explore the not so wild, wild west on foot. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed. This route is more suitable for running enthusiasts because of the distance, but it’s certainly open for anyone to try. As a wise man once told us “there’s a time and a pace for everyone”. This 10km loop offers beautiful vistas of the island’s western part, as well as Lamma Island across the harbour. It starts and ends at the Kennedy Town MTR station, with detour options to Mt. Davis path, Cyberport Waterfront Park and Waterfall Bay Park.

Quarry Bay Promenade

We are certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to incredible waterfront promenades to run on in Hong Kong. This route stretches up to around 2km from the Quarry Bay, Taikoo or Shau Kei Wan MTR stations. It offers panoramic views of the harbour and flat running surface all the way! Highlights include a pet garden full of cute little doggies, Aldrich Bay Park and the Sir Alexander Grantham Memorial.
