See What We #MadeTimeFor This Ramadan…

In the spirit of giving, family and love this Ramadan, we were proud to sponsor Du during their Ramadan campaign Your Presence Matters. Across Dubai, Du were reuniting families that hadn’t seen each other in a really long time due to financial and life constraints. Not only did we think this was an awesome idea but our very own Receptionist, Shehani, was chosen to take part! Keep reading to discover her reaction, how surprised she was and what she got up to with her parents…

How did you feel when your parents walked into the room?

I had been talking to them on the phone ever since Skype got blocked which means I hadn’t seen their faces for the past five months. So I was totally shocked when I was looking at them. So many people around me were clapping but I didn’t hear a single noise. I felt like I was dreaming. No words can really express how that feeling was.

What was the first thing you wanted to do as soon as you saw your parents?

I wanted to cuddle both of them and never let go!

Where was the ONE place you wanted to show your parents while they were in Dubai?

Actually, it was my dream to show them my office and introduce to them my lovely boss Donna, who is the best boss in the world, to my parents. That happened on the first day though so the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall Fountains were the other main things I wanted to show them.

Tell us a little bit about how you spent your time with your mum and dad while they were here.

We had a lovely breakfast one day and lunch at the One & Only Royal Mirage Dubai.

My parents love Thai food as they lived in Thailand for a couple of years, so we chose Little Bangkok to bring back some memories for them.

My parents also wanted to try Arabic food which they’d never had before. We chose Karam Beirut in Mall of Emirates for this and then we went to Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountains, Dubai Frame and the gold souq.

If you could tell readers to #MakeTimeFor one thing this Ramadan, what would it be and why?

I’d like to tell everyone make time for their parents. Because they are the only ones who love us unconditionally. Try to keep them happy, always. They deserve it.

How long had it been since you last saw your parents?

I hadn’t been seen them in person in 12 months; which felt more like 12 years to me!

Did you suspect anything like this would happen when you were approached to take part in the initiative?

To be honest I didn’t suspect anything like this would happen at all!. Du were asking me to choose something to send my parents as a gift for Ramadan and I never imagined that they would actually come here!

What did you love most about having your parents here with you in Dubai?

My parents got to see with their own eyes where I’m working and how happy I am spending my life with my husband in Dubai; which I think every parent wants to see. So that was what I loved most about having them here, now they are no longer worrying about me.

What were your parents’ favourite parts of the trip (other than seeing you of course!)?

I think the Dubai Fountains were their favourite part of the trip.
