KAWS Fever

By now you would have seen all over your social media feed something that kind of looks like an exhausted Mickey Mouse, free-floating on Victoria Harbour. This giant, inflatable sculpture is of Companion, the signature character of American artist, KAWS.

It’s so popular, it has now become a meme.

The giant character reclining on its back with X’s for eyes seems to be inviting us to relax and let go. That’s something we all could use more of in this frenetic city. No wonder KAWS’ cast of hybrid cartoon and human characters is such a hit with us, Hongkongers.

If you just can’t get enough KAWS, make sure you check out KAWS: ALONG THE WAY in PMQ (35 Aberdeen Street, Central). Curated by Germano Celant, the exhibition features some of the artist’s most iconic characters such as the CHUM and COMPANION series, as well as his more recent cycle of works entitled YOU.

After you’ve sufficiently feasted your senses on KAWS’ larger-than-life art, refuel at Garden Meow –  a quirky Taiwanese cafe where you can use the #ENTERTAINERapp to enjoy buy one get one free main course and drinks. Then feed your design cravings at homegrown hipster lifestyle boutique, kapok. Shop with the ENTERTAINER using vouchers starting from “Spend HKD400, Save HKD200” upwards. Browse beautiful, sustainable bamboo homeware at Bamboa Home (“Spend HKD480, Save HKD24” and up). All these shops are in PMQ.

KAWS: ALONG THE WAY goes on until 14 April 2019, Sunday. Free Admission.
