Durban Restaurants With A View

Let’s be honest, Durban’s outdoor activities are often sweaty and strenuous, like hiking, cycling and swimming. And sometimes, we just want to sit back and soak in gorgeous views, sans physical activity, right? (Feasting on something delicious while you do it is an added bonus). If you anticipate a lazy day but wouldn’t mind spending it in a beautiful setting, here are the best Durban restaurants with a view.

1 | Coral Tree Restaurant

The scenic Zimbali estate sits on the northern outskirts of Durban, and within it lies the Coral Tree Restaurant. Here, you can enjoy a combo of breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and daily breakfast and dinner buffets. As a rejecter of early mornings, I’d sooner find myself in the evening restaurant slot, diving into the local carvery, sushi bar, Italian pasta bar, stir-fry station and – drum roll please – chocolate fountain. This might just be a favourite on my list of Durban restaurants with a view.

2 | Intaba View

I really appreciate Durban’s gorgeous beachfront but it’s definitely safer for (my hair and) me to retreat to the non-humid hills inland. As the name states, at Intaba View you’ll find spectacular views of the majestic Valley of 1000 Hills. This restaurant is ideal for families – the fresh air, children playing and wide open spaces will give you the illusion of activity without you having to do much more than explore the extensive menu.

3 | The Chantecler Hotel

Just around the corner, the views at Chantecler Hotel are equally gorgeous, with the added treat of stunning gardens and a large koi pond. The beautiful country-style thatched roof and stone-walled buildings only add to the atmosphere. The Chantecler chefs serve extraordinary culinary delights, making this one of the best Durban restaurants with a view.

4 | La Vue

Why dine near the water when you can dine on it. La Vue is a dash more lavish than your average night-out offering, with two sprawling decks, two bars and a dance floor. Did I mention it’s on an 85-foot luxury catamaran? Sip on designer cocktails or indulge in a 4-course dinner while soaking in the Durban skyline – a rare sophistication by Durban’s casual standards.

5 | Views at Twenty5

Speaking of sophistication, you might be as surprised as I was to discover that Durban is home to a sexy new rooftop venue. Catering to the tastes of the modern aristocrat, Views at Twenty5 is a stylish new spot for singletons and date-nighters alike. Along with panoramic views of the city, you can knock back a few craft cocktails, cognacs and premium vodkas, while sampling a locally-inspired, wood-fired shisa nyama menu.

Have I left out any of your favourite Durban restaurants with a view? Do share!
