From Crazy to Cosy: Which HK Night Out Fits Your Style?

Crazy cosy nights | Do you like your nights out wild or mild? Going out on a date, or stepping out for a celebration? Whatever your persuasion – because hey, it’s truly all about context, isn’t it? – we’ve come up with suggestions that’ll ensure a memorable night out in the city.

Crazy Cosy Nights: Which HK Night Out Suits Your Style?

CRAZY

The Drunken Pot

27th Level, VPOINT, 18 Tang Lung Street, Causeway Bay
‘Drunken’ is a hint as much as it’s a warning. It’s a reference to the imminent introduction of sake bombs in hot pots, and the signature house sake and cocktails. We like the Causeway Bay outpost (they also have one in TST) for the breathtaking views of twinkling skyscrapers.  Modern-day health concerns are addressed with broths made from chicken rather than traditionally cholesterol-laden meat offcuts, while vegetarian broths are also an option. Oh, and you have to see their “chicken fish balls” that look like actual chicks, the “penguins,” and the psychedelic xialongbao.

Los Sotano

Basement, 21 D’Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong
This place is Lan Kwai Fong’s hottest, new underground lounge. The ‘secret’ entrance is a through a giant tequila barrel (!). You need to press the red button underneath the skull for the barrel to open, which then leads down several landings festooned with riotous ‘Dia de los Muertos’-inspired graffiti by Miami artists LeCreep, Urban Reuben and Golden. Their head mixologist Rob Kariakin moved to HK from Los Angeles to create unique handcrafted cocktails. Chef Abel Ortiz has created a food menu that perfectly complements the fantastic cocktails and tequilas.

COSY

Table

8th Level, The Pemberton, 22-26 Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan
Chef Sandy Keung is HK’s resident ‘Queen of Depurated Seafood.’ Depuration is the process by which living seafood are detoxified and cleansed of waste and dirt before being prepared for eating. Her restaurant in Sheung Wan is a romantic, dimly-let setting that’s perfect for enjoying aphrodisiacal delights meant to titillate one’s senses and taste buds. The oysters here – yes, the oysters – are heavenly.

The Woods

L/G, 17 Hollywood Road
This is yet another underground lounge – but more hushed and enigmatic. Marvel at the hanging driftwood tables, the tree mural, the vintage-style accordion window… everything in The Woods seems to have come from a thoughtfully production-designed set – and that’s before we even get to the exquisite cocktails. After all it’s Founder, Victoria Chow, was named Best Mixologist by the Editors of Foodie for good reason.
