Chinese Restaurants for Every Occasion

Best Chinese Restaurants | It’s easy to find Chinese restaurants – sure. They’re all over the place, in case you live on another planet. But it takes more work to pick one that (a) suits what you have in mind at the moment and (b) has buy one get one free offers on the ENTERTAINER.

I consulted my colleagues just a moment ago – “Would you use the ENTERTAINER on a date?” And the resounding answer is “Yes!” Truly, saving with a smile is always within every reason and purpose.

Here are some suggestions.

Best Chinese restaurants for every occasion

For Dates

Lai Bun Fu

5th Level, 18 On Lan Street, Central
Chef Chung Kin Leung has had the honour of preparing feasts for world leaders such as George Bush and Margaret Thatcher. It’s safe to say, your loved ones are going to be wowed by the luxurious Chinese restaurant where the highly esteemed si fu now holds court. Signature dishes include foie gras prawn cutlets on toast and Sifu’s crispy chicken with 5 sauces.

Nam Fong

Le Meridien Cyberport, 100 Cyberport Road
It’s within one of Pok Fu Lam’s most exciting addresses. That alone is enough reason to look forward to a date in Nam Fong. Pair that with tantalising Cantonese delicacies served amidst sleek interiors and soaring ceilings  and you’ve got a home run. The dim sum is phenomenal and will give you lots to talk about. Just look at that steamed vegetarian dumpling with purple sweet potatoes, spinach and mixed mushrooms – below.

For a Night Out with the Gang

The Drunken Pot CWB

27th Level, VPOINT, 18 Tang Lung Street, Causeway Bay
‘Drunken’ is a hint as much as it’s a warning. It’s a reference to the imminent introduction of sake bombs in hot pots, and the signature house sake and cocktails. We like the Causeway Bay outpost (they also have one in TST) for the breathtaking views of twinkling skyscrapers. Modern-day health concerns are addressed with broths made from chicken rather than traditionally cholesterol-laden meat offcuts, while vegetarian broths are also an option. Oh, and you have to see their “chicken fish balls” that look like actual chicks, the “penguins,” and the psychedelic xialongbao

Qi – Nine Dragons

20/F Prince Tower, 12A Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
Qi–Nine Dragons is the chic, new addition to the Michelin-starred Qi–House of Sichuan. The dishes here are large, festive and of course, fiery. One of my favourite things about this place is, it’s upscale – but the dishes are surprisingly affordable. Main courses average about $100. Take the gang to the spacious rooftop, which offers a seldom seen view of Victoria Harbour. This place is perfect from sunset cocktails to post-dinner merrymaking.

For Every Cantonese Craving

Kaifong Cafe

Shop 1E-1F, G/F, Witty Commercial Building, 1 Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok
“Kai Fong” means neighbour in Chinese. The place promotes HK food culture and history through its dishes and interiors. The food is based on traditional HK food and snacks with a modern twist. See below – that’s a tiramisu custard with Hong Kong-style egg waffle. PHWOAR.

Warren Restaurant

G/F, 28-30 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay
How can we have a best Chinese restaurants list on the ENTERTAINER, without this place? Go to Warren Restaurant when all you’re dreaming of is sam bo fan. This cha chaan teng serves a wide variety of affordable local signature dishes like the famous sizzling beef, Hong Kong-style curry and BBQ pork rice. Don’t let the fact that it’s a bit of an upgrade from other, mainstream cha chaan tengs turn you off. The food is ever as reliabe.
