Experience Shoreditch in Kennedy Town, Hong Kong

Aging industrial buildings transformed into funky lofts. Multiculturalism, grunge, architecture, style – everything is happening here. In London’s East End lies Shoreditch, one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods. Home to forward-thinking design and media geeks, it’s known for its urban vibe as well as its legendary nightlife.

Halfway around the world in Hong Kong’s Western district, lies Kennedy Town. Its sea views, quiet hillside terraces, little-known charming landmarks and end-of-the-line feel have made it a favourite amongst creative urbanites who have transformed this once-sleepy suburb into a buzzing neighbourhood. “KTown,” as it’s affectionately known amongst residents, is home to Hong Kong’s own Shoreditch – a spacious restaurant that echoes the edgy vibe of its London namesake.

HK’s Shoreditch is accented with vintage street signs, riotous graffiti, pendant bulbs and wooden chopping boards that are not only decorative but also serve as menus. That it’s right along the tram line adds to Shoreditch’s unique ambience.

We catch up with Scott Wrayton of Urban Eateries Restaurant Group which operates Shoreditch, amongst others. Scott shares with us his Hong Kong story, the inspiration behind Shoreditch, and his thoughts on the future of the Kennedy Town scene.
