Cardiff Cuisine: Dining Alfresco in the Capital

As the Capital of Wales, Cardiff has a huge variety of amazing restaurants to check out. If you happen to be visiting while the weather is warm, you might want to look for somewhere where you can sit outside, relax, and soak up the friendly atmosphere while you dine.

To help you out, we’ve put together a list of some of Cardiff’s finest venues that offer alfresco dining. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

BELLINI’S

In you’re after a view to die for, you won’t find much better than Bellini’s – overlooking the scenic Mermaid Quay. Their authentic Italian food and a killer view of the bay should put Bellini’s at the top of the list for any visitors to Cardiff.

The menu is surprisingly varied for an Italian eatery – you won’t be stuck with just pizza and pasta. A few standout dishes are the chargrilled chicken breast with spinach, mushrooms, and fries and their Branzino – a delicate pan fried sea bass with veg on the side. If you’re looking for something a little more traditional, you can’t go wrong with their Napoli pizza, the Calzone Spinaci, or a simple antipasti dish.

ROYAL COAST CAFE & RESTAURANT

Offering up a slice of Middle Eastern cuisine in the heart of Cardiff, Royal Coast Cafe & Restaurant is an experience you definitely won’t want to miss out on. The covered outdoor dining area is the perfect place to watch the world fly by as you dine out on a rich and varied menu.

Their authentic Arabic Chicken Shawarma is a local favourite, along with the hearty Beef Lasagne. If you’re in the mood for something lighter, though, you’ll find plenty of options. You could even split a custom mixed grill platter between the group. A large range of wraps (halloumi, falafel etc) are perfect for the vegetarians out there. Don’t forget to wash it all down with a traditional Turkish coffee!

SANTA MARIA

Santa Maria is the epicentre of traditional stone-baked pizza in Cardiff. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more successful pizza place throughout the whole of Wales. On top of that, they’ve got a stellar outdoor dining area for you to enjoy a slice or two with friends.

Let’s dive into what kind of pizza you’ll find on offer here. Of course, you can’t go wrong with the tried-and-tested margherita, but why not opt for something a little more exotic? Their Pata pizza is super popular, as is the veggie-friendly Ortolana (a pizza with aubergines, peppers, and a mountain of veg). Or just tuck into a tasty Lasagna.

Large groups might want to try one of their many platters (cheese, mixed, meat etc). Simply choose what you want on it and tuck in when it arrives. Throw in a few sides – like the homemade meatballs or fried risotto balls – and you’ve got the beginning of a night you’ll never forget!

If you’re heading out in Cardiff tonight, you should definitely check out one of these three venues. Just make sure you download The ENTERTAINER app to your phone and take a look at the amazing deals available at these restaurants and more!
