The weekend is nearly upon us and there are some amazing events going on across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Here’s our pick of the best along with some nearby activities and restaurants so you can really make the most out of your day.
West Side Story
When: February 14-18
Where: Dubai Opera
A musical loved for over 60 years and inspired by the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet follows the tale of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria, members of two rival gangs (the Jets and the Sharks) in 1950’s New York City. Expect classic songs, epic dance routines and maybe a tear or two. Make sure to make a proper night of it with a visit to one of the many lovely restaurants nearby. We especially like the stunning Toko Downtown and the new romantic kid on the block The Atlantic.
Groove On The Grass 2017
When: February 17
Where: Emirates Golf Club
The UAE’s biggest electronic music festival Groove on the Grass is back for its first event of 2017 with some huge names headlining. Enjoy the techno beats of Steve Bug and Mark Houle, the best of electronic, house and jazz from David DeWalta, a Dj set from Royksopp, and much more. Make sure to kick your night off right with a hearty meal at nearby Lock Stock & Barrel or Wagamama.
GPP Photo week
When: February 10-17
Where: Al Quoz
Calling all photography buffs! Get yourselves down to Al Quoz and catch the last couple of days of the GPP Photo week! Packed with exhibitions, photo walks, special events, and workshops led by the world’s leading photographers you’ll soon be inspired to become the next Mario Testino. You could even swing by The Jam Jar to continue your day of creativity with an art class.
Happiness festival

The Happiness Festival does exactly what it says on the tin. It spreads a huge amount of happiness by providing you with the tools and resources that enable you to overcome the barriers keeping you from living your life to its fullest. Every 40minutes enjoy wellbeing conferences, workshops, training, retreats and consulting sessions. Love Food Festival

Where: Umm Al Emarat Park, Abu Dhabi
If you love food, and let’s be frank who doesn’t, then the only place you need to be this weekend is the Love Food Festival 2017. With local home-grown UAE street food, a selection of Singapore’s authentic street food vendors, the very best food trucks from the UK and USA, along with activities and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy this is one great festival. You could even treat the kids to a trip to Sparky’s Amusement before hand!
