Guys, it’s 2017 already. How did that actually happen? I feel like one minute ago I was stuffing my face with trifle and gammon (yes, in that order) and BOOM, now it’s January. Eeeeeeek. So, I’ve taken it upon myself to put together a list of 5 ways to get fit that don’t include staring at the inside of a gym all day. Because it’s summer, it’s Cape Town, and you won’t make any friends here if you don’t do alternative workouts and Instagram them.
1. Run Cape Town
Why sweat alone on a treadmill when you can run through Cape Town with a cool group of people? Run Cape Town offers seven ready-made tours, including urban and trail runs. I’m super keen to try the Lion’s Head loop, False Bay coastal run or the historical city centre tour.
2. StreamingFit
StreamingFit offers online fitness video classes that can be practised anytime. Think yoga, Pilates, strength training, dance arts, Yogalates, functional training, meditation or relaxation classes. Stream your workout of choice on your phone and you can literally exercise anywhere in Cape Town.
3. Atlantic Beach Golf
There’s no better way to get your 10 000 steps in (hey there, Vitality Rewards friends) than with a gentle walk around a stunning golf course. Plus, you get to whack some balls around and gaze at Atlantic Beach Estate’s beautiful fauna and flora.
4. SUP Cape Town
You’re not Capetonian unless you’ve attempted to SUP at least once in your life. Seriously though, it’s a great core workout, and surprisingly easy to master. Bonus points if you can get a pic with a sunfish.
5. Wild Thing Yoga
Forget everything you know about yoga classes, because the girls from Wild Thing have a totally unique studio. Hip hop soundtracks, puppy photoshoots and acro workshops are the norm here. Although classes are held indoors, the views of Lion’s Head soaring above Sea Point will soothe any city-weary soul.
Well, there you have it. No excuse to lie on the couch this January. (Sigh). These are just a sample of the fun workout options on the Entertainer this year – what are you going to try first?
