How To Stay Cool(er) Throughout Durban Summer

The heat, along with its best friend humidity, are coming your way, Durbs. And there’s not much we can do about it. Winter didn’t really made an appearance (obviously) so we’ve been dreaming up all kinds of ways to stay cool throughout the relentless Durban summer. Take all excess clothing off, put your hair up in a bun and get that iced water bottle ready.

Eish Kream

You can’t disagree with the fact that there’s not a lot of things in this world that cool you down like a good old ice-cream, am I right? Eish Kream is the new kid on the block and they do Durban’s original cold-press spaghetti ice cream. I mean, just look at their packaging. So freakin’ cute! All you need is a crate of your fave flavour to fight off Durban summer.

Fine Young Cooks

Afraid of the sauna you’ll walk into when leaving the house? Lucky for you, the ENTERTAINER includes some cool indoor activities for you and your family to do. Head to Fine Young Cooks for a fun way to spend the day, and you’ll go home with some inspirational cooking ideas too.

Madeleines

Winter calls for a perfect cuppa + a beautiful slice of cake. Yes, I know winter is over, but you can make it last forever with the air conditioning at Madeleines and a bit of imagination. It’s THE place to go to satisfy your sweet tooth, and the cosy interiors will have you dreaming of cooler days. (Surely it’s not just me looking for excuses to eat cake everyday…?)

The Bierfassl

If you’re looking for a bit of a weekend escape, I have just the place for you to live your winter fantasies. The Bierfassl creates an authentic Austrian-German experience with great decor, vibe, and a wide variety (35 different options, to be exact) of local, delish beers to quench your thirst after a long, hot day. If you squint a little, the hills of the Midlands could almost be the Alps…

Last but not least (and perhaps the most obvious spot to escape the Durban summer heat), say hello to the brand new Durban Ice Rink. The child within will come to the surface (and perhaps fall on its knees now and then). Get ready to have a blast and stay cool whilst doing it!

So, where’s your fave place to escape the infamous Durban summer?

Let me know in the comments, and I’ll add them to the list. And if the thought of impending 100% humidity is just too much to handle, maybe you need to give up and travel abroad
