Things To Do: With Your Other Half vs Your In-Laws!

Hannah, our Marketing Manager, has kindy shared with us her top tips on keeping busy with both the in-laws, and other half. See below for some fab ideas!

Winter in the UAE is the best time of the year – the weather is perfect & there is so much to do, so there’s no excuse to sit at home bored. It’s also the time of year when our families descend upon us for well-deserved visits. Here are some of my top picks for winter outings whether you’re with your in-laws or spending it with your other half.

In-laws

– Dubai

We love to take the in-laws to a la carte brunches, which tend to be tamer than the big buffets. Having food served instead of constantly jumping up & down for the next course means we are able to have bond over great conversation and food. A recent favorite is the Friday Brunch at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in the Address Dubai Marina. My father-in-law loved the fact that he could order an unlimited amount of steaks from the brunch’s excellent select menu. And while I can confirm the steaks are out-of-this-world, the stand-out for me was the macaroni & cheese!

Another fool-proof activity with the in-laws is a boat cruise in the Marina. My family are big fans of Xclusive, who have a host of different boating excursions available, depending on your plans & budget. I especially recommend it if it’s the folks’ first time in Dubai, because it’s an easy & fun way of seeing the city, plus some of the best photo-ops around!

Whether it’s your first or tenth time in Dubai, there’s nothing quite like a desert safari – my mom’s reaction to dune-bashing is still one of my favorite memories from living here. We always take guests out with Arabian Nights Tours, who do a great job of showcasing the unique culture of Dubai.

– Abu Dhabi

If instead, you perhaps feel like venturing into the capital, why not treat the in-laws to a special Thai-inspired staycay at Dusit Thani Hotel – with its prominent glass tower and innovative architectural design, they’ll feel like royalty, and you’ll feel a little smug, saving half the price on a two-night getaway.

While you’re there, it’d be rude not to check out the gorgeous – and very popular – US restaurant brand, KOI. Offering an unlimited a la carte menu for brunch, the eatery is beautifully located in the heart of Saadiyat Island, and serves divine contemporary Japanese cuisine.

With the other half

– Dubai

If it’s just you & yours, I highly recommend booking a couple’s massage at one of the many 5-star spas at your doorstep. There’s nothing quite as refreshing as spending an uninterrupted few hours with your main man or lady! I will be booking into Talise Spa at Madinat Jumeirah for a couple’s 90 minute Balinese massage very soon. Such a treat!

Another thing that I think everyone should try at least once is ice skating at Dubai Ice Rink.  There’s something very dreamy about ice skating on a nice winter day – even if it’s inside the world’s largest shopping mall! Afterward, you can head over to the Palace Downtown for sundowners and to watch the fountains at Fai – a romantic day, indeed!

– Abu Dhabi

If you’re fed up of doing the same thing week in week out, experience a thrill and head to Ferrari World, where you can be blasted 240km/h in 4.9 seconds on the world’s fastest rollercoaster. Not feeling that extreme? Take to the water and opt for a bit of couple’s paddleboarding, courtesy of Captain Tony’s.

So whether you’re entertaining the in-laws or spending quality time with you better half, there’s always something new to try in Dubai. For more couple-y ideas, you can check out our ultimate date weekend ideas, too.
