Explore Johannesburg And Pretoria This Weekend

I always thought that Cape Town had it all – cute markets to visit over the weekend, and art that envelops you as you walk down the street. I was one of those people who thought there was nothing to do in Johannesburg and Pretoria that even came close to Cape Town living. Boy, was I wrong. We live in such a vibrant city, and we’re surrounded by so much culture right in our back yard. So get out there this weekend and explore Johannesburg and Pretoria, and all the vibey places that these cities have to offer.

Explore Johannesburg

Spot iconic street art:

Sometimes you’ll only understand the struggles and growth of a city when you immerse yourself in its history. In inner Jozi, history is splashed across the walls in the form of powerful murals. They act as a commentary on the social and cultural zeitgeist. Every turn is filled with colour, so plan a tour of all the striking pieces around Newtown, Jeppestown, and Maboneng (to name a few). While you’re there, pop in to Love Revo for a potjie dinner or Pata Pata for a post-sightseeing beer.

Freefall inside the Orlando Towers:

Not only do you get to see the iconic murals up close, but you also get to jump inside the Orlando Towers. Yes, you read that correctly! You can face your fears with a buy one, get one free Scad Freefall inside the Western Cooling Tower. You’ll probably want a celebratory cold one, so visit the popular and energetic Chaf Pozi, which is literally two steps away.

Soak up the vibes and eat all the food at Neighbourgoods Market:

Whether you want to indulge in delicious kos, or experience the very best that Jozi has to offer with friends, the Neighbourgoods Market will make your Saturday. Top tip: parking is a bit of a mission, so Uber instead.

Explore Pretoria

Zoom between cities:

Even though it’s been around since 2010, the Gautrain is something that every Joburger and Pretorian needs to use and experience at least once in their life. If you hop on at the Rosebank station (after a sneaky Piza e Vino lunch, obviously), and get off at Centurion, you’ll be able to spend your Saturday at the Irene Market. Or *spoiler alert* satisfy your sweet tooth with spaghetti ice cream at Eish Kream, which will be available from 2 January 2018! Click here for a sneak peek of some of the new offers that will be on The ENTERTAINER 2018.

P.s. purchase yours now and get More Africa, Cheers Johannesburg & Pretoria, Durban 2018, AND a 2017 top-up free during early bird! You’re welcome.

Brush up on your history at a museum of your choice:

So much to learn, so little time. Choose between the National Museum of Natural History, Kruger Museum, Pioneer Museum, and the Sammy Marks Museum, all conveniently located in Pretoria CBD. And they’re all on The ENTERTAINER!

Watch the sunset over Fort Klapperkop:

That view though. Finish the day overlooking the breathtaking skyline and twinkling lights of Pretoria. And if that description doesn’t convince you, have a look at the photo below!

Where do you like to go when you explore Johannesburg or Pretoria? I’d love to know, so comment below. Take that, Cape Town ?
