5 Indian Restaurants to Keep It Lit After Diwali

Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is a celebration of light over darkness and good over evil. In preparation for it people from India to Trinidad and Tobago buy new clothes, clean their houses and generally prepare for one of the happiest festivities in South Asia!

Diwali is over now, but what better way to keep celebrating the festival of light this autumn than with a curry, a dish that brings so much happiness and hope to us all?

The Red Fort

Like the nearby Groucho and Ronnie Scott’s, The Red Fort is something of a Soho institution. Since it all began in 1983, this upscale Indian has not only survived Black Wednesday and BREXIT but a couple of nasty kitchen fires. Not that you’d guess from the stylish, understated interior of turmeric silks. Sit and savour the mystique, along with lamb specialities and more unusual dishes of rabbit and monkfish. But keep an eye peeled for the odd bookish celeb.

Cinnamon Soho

Just behind Regent Street, the Indian brasserie has come over all Soho. Cinnamon Soho is the brazen love child of the more stately, Cinnamon Club, St James, and it’s not about to grow up. Inside this fun but well-appointed eatery, crossovers like Rogan Josh Shepherd’s Pie sit cheek-by-jowl with traditional favourites of lamb and Chicken Korma. With Breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea all covered, Cinnamon Soho is always ready to rustle up something moreish with a smirk. Don’t mind if I do.

Daawat

Nestling within the Art Deco splendour of the Strand Palace Hotel, Daawat enjoys an enviable Thames-side location, close to Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square. If you like your pre-theatre a bit spicy, then the traditional well-judged menu of pimped Indian Classics in elegant surroundings will fit the bill perfectly before curtain up. Also, they have their own version of the classic Afternoon Tea! Bravo!

Indian Fusion

This popular and friendly place on the south side of Tower Bridge has the cosy feel of your local curry house, with prices to match. A stroll along the Southbank will bring you here – past The Shard, Shakespeare’s Globe and Shad Thames. Next stop, Indian Fusion, where the kitsch cocktail bar and candy coloured lighting will put a smile on your face. As will a range of delicious South Indian seafood dishes, classic curries and great value veggie options.

Massala Hut

Massala Hut is a vibrant curry house for friends, family and after workers – offering a classic Indian à la carte or special buffet menu for groups. You’ll find this informal stalwart on Drummond Street, close to Euston Station. So enter, make yourself at home and tuck into Garlic Chicken, Kashmiri Lamb or maybe a tasty Thali, all served up to the strains of Bollywood. They do takeaway, but why would you?

Enjoy the lights, the spice and the good company! Remember, all these great venues are within the ENTERTAINER London App, so you will be just a couple of taps away from getting amazing value on top of the best service!
