Setting Out Toward Sha Tin

Sha Tin is best known as the home of the biggest racecourse in Hong Kong, but there’s more to this New Territories district than just horse racing and the heritage museum.

Did you know that one of the most picturesque biking trails in Hong Kong can be found here? This scenic route includes breathtaking mountain and coastal views as well as interesting sights of old people doing Tai chi, children flying kites and teams training for dragon boat racing. Ride along Shing Mun River, stop for a frozen pineapple break and continue until you reach the Hong Kong Science Park. This structure is not only a great place for a photo-op because of its spaceship-like shape, but it’s also the best stop for lunch. Head to Tom Bar + Grill for some delicious Western, Chinese and Thai fusion fare to fuel your energy for the second half of the trail that ends at the main dam of Plover Cover Reservoir.

We caught up with fitness coach Owen Ng, who enjoyed his ice-cold beer with some yummy skewers and a fresh salad while taking in a panoramic view of Tolo Harbour at Tom Bar + Grill.
